Senior Citizens Coordinator Position Available

Position available with Village of Baldwinsville: Senior Citizens Coordinator  (Refer to SENIOR CITIZENS COORDINATOR per Onondaga County Civil Service for  job specifications). Supervision from the Village of Baldwinsville Board of Trustees who advise on policy matters.

This position has responsibility for coordinating a variety of social, recreational, and educational activities for the senior citizen population in the towns of Lysander and Van Buren and the Village of Baldwinsville. Programs are designed to enhance and enrich the lives of elderly participants.

Coordination of activities at Canton Woods Senior Center includes scheduling various group functions, nutrition services, outreach programs and other community service programs for the elderly as well as regularly scheduled leisure time or recreational activities, overseeing building maintenance and assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the center’s budget.

  1. Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university which must include or be supplemented by twelve (12) credit hours in psychology, sociology, education, health or recreation and one (1) year of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the planning, organizing or delivery of a recreation program, or elderly services program or a senior citizens program; or,
  2. Three (3) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in education, social work, recreation, health services or a field closely related to human services or health services, one (1) year of which must have been in the planning, organizing, or delivery of a recreation program, or elderly services program, or senior citizens program; or,
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

NOTE: A baccalaureate degree in recreation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university may substitute for qualifications listed in (A) and (B) above.

The Garden Club is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization under the NYS Federated Garden Clubs. All funds
collected by the Garden Club shall be used for the beautification within the Baldwinsville Community, such as
hanging baskets, planters, etc.

Summer Part-Time Gardener Position

SUMMER PART-TIME GARDENER POSITION

The Village of Baldwinsville Department of Public Works is offering a part-time paid gardening position for the Summer of 2024.  This position will report directly to the Village Superintendent.  Responsibilities will primarily involve upkeep and maintenance of flower beds in Village parks.

Applicants must be willing to work outdoors.  The position requires a substantial amount of walking and light duty lifting.

Employment Period: April 16, 2024, through Oct. 12, 2024 (approximate start and end dates)

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: Flexible (maximum of 20 hours per week).

Pay Rate: $17.87/hour

The Village maintains gardens at the following locations:

  • Village Hall and the Police Station
  • Mercer Park Entrance and Concession/Restroom Building
  • Village Square
  • Pride of Baldwinsville Sign
  • Parking Lot in front of Red Mill Inn
  • Paper Mill Island
  • Visitors Center and Memorial Gardens on South Shore West Trail
  • McHarrie Park
  • Community Park (Entrance sign and around restroom building)
  • Post Office Memorial
  • Point Park on East Oneida Street

Work involves spring raking and cleaning of all gardens, selection and planting annual flowers. Working with DPW crew to mulch beds. Performing regular maintenance as necessary throughout the summer months, cleaning and
end-of-Summer maintenance in the Fall.

Neighborhood Advisor/Outreach Worker for Canton Woods

Canton Woods Senior Center is currently seeking a part-time position for a Neighborhood Advisor/Outreach worker. This outreach worker is helping the elderly in need or assisting those in need of community services.

Neighborhood Advisor/Outreach worker must meet the following criteria: Hold a two-year college degree in Social related field; or have the equivalent of four-years, full time work and experience in geriatric case work or social work with community/social programs.

Neighborhood Advisor/Outreach worker must have knowledge of Onondaga County community service, familiarity with eligibility criteria for all entitlement programs, computer skills and must have a valid NYS license. This position is 30 hours per week.
